The Spares & Technical section on this website, in the Technical information section, second item is Hesketh V1000/Vampire workshop manual (kind permissiojn of Mick Broom) has a page with Modification to RETA IGNITION SYSTEM Dec 88. Wiring diagram for a double pole relay in the wiring to the coils, so that 12V is applied to the coils when the starter button is pressed, reverting to 6V when starter button is released - standard sytem uses 6V coils in series.

Is this the mod you're looking for?

Haven't done it myself.

Thanks for the fast reply, I think you are talking about the two coils in parallel/series mod we did some years ago,  which gives a bigger and fatter spark when the starter solenoid is engaged.
Mick 'converted' my bike a decade or so - he fitted the Gill computer and replaced the twin coils with a single coil pack.
I pulled the wiring off looking for a short and made a rough diagram. Which has been stolen by the garage pixies leaving me with wires and no idea where they go.

Just to update, the wiring harness from the Gill Computer to the coil  has an extra wire that doesn't seem to go anywhere.
On my bike, the extra connector is a female (shrouded) bullet connector.
According to the Grand Guru, it is there in case the owner wants to fit an electronic rev counter
