Update - April 2014:

Due to the dramatic expansion of the Membership in Europe over the past few years and to show support to those individuals, the Annual Rally will be held in the Netherlands over 11th - 14th September 2014.  This will be preceded, for those who are interested, by a trip through Northern France, starting on 7th September.  Details as follows:

HOC Northern France Adventure – Brittany 7th–11th September 2014 .
The plan is to explore Brittany for a few days, basing ourelves just outside the town of Dinan (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Tourism-g187098-Dinan_Cotes_d_Armor_Brittany-Vacations.html) (just 30 mins south of St Malo). Dinan (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Tourism-g187098-Dinan_Cotes_d_Armor_Brittany-Vacations.html) is without doubt one of the most attractive and best preserved small towns in Brittany. With its 1.8 mile long ramparts, half-timbered houses, attractive port and cobbled streets filled with art galleries and craft shops.

Once we've made their own way to St Marlo (having taken the ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo) on the Sunday 7th September, they will be met there by one of our own Members; Chris Loosemore. For those who are not aware, this region used to be one of his previous stomping grounds and he has kindly agreed to guide Members through this beautiful part of France until departing for the Annual Rally on Wednesday 10th September.  Until that day, Chris will lead the group on day trips throughout parts of the province which includes many historical and interesting attractions.

This group will then depart on the morning of 10th September for the Netherlands. The first day will, and the fact it's the centenary of WWI, be a 4.5 - 5 hour journey to Beauvais (an hour north of Paris), which took an active part in the Great War, where they'll spend the night. Famous for textiles dating back to medieval times, much of the original town, including the ancient ramparts, was destroyed in WWII but it still has some beautiful timbered structures, the Cathedral de St Pierre and Bishop's Palace.

The following day the group will depart for a 3.5-4 hour run north to Domburg through the battlefields of northern France and Belgium.

Note: this aspect of the HOC Annual Rally will not be covered by the deposit required for the Hotel at Domburg and Members will have to organize their own Channel crossing to and from France/Netherlands.

HOC Annual Rally – Netherlands 11th-14th September 2014.  Those not participating in the pre-Rally adventure in France, but purely taking part in this year's Annual Rally will need to make their way to Domburg (seaside location), Zeeland, Netherlands for Thursday 11th September. The HOC will be staying at the following motorcycle friendly hotel:

Hotel Kijkduin
Brouwerijweg 24
4357 CE
Domburg
www.hotelkijkduin.nl (http://www.hotelkijkduin.nl)

I've already reserved 12 rooms at the hotel but I need to know whether to amend  that number ASAP.  Costs for the rooms will vary dependent on size and view but will be in the region of €250-300 for three nights.  For those wishing to camp, there is a campsite just outside the small town.

The first day will be just a case of getting there, meeting up and having dinner. Experience has highlighted that as Members will be commencing their journey form different parts of the UK, and prefer different ways for navigating across the Channel, that element will be up to individuals to arrange (be advised that the earlier you book the cheaper it is!).  For information, Domburg is 2.5 hours from Calais and 1.5 hours from Rotterdam.

Thereafter, Dutch HOC Members, Wim and Roel, will utilize their local knowledge to show us the delights of their nation. These rides out will be leisurely taking in local historical and cultural sites before returning to Domburg each evening.

The town is actually more a village but received a city charter in 1223. Until the 19th century the town did not change much until tourism commenced in the 17th century. A considerable British influence in these years was responsible for the establishment of the second golf-course in the Netherlands; however, it is perhaps best known for its artistic connections.

A deposit of £100 - payable to the Hesketh Owners Club - is required before 31st April 2014 (for the Hotel only.)  Accommodation will be made available on a first come - first served basis, but please note that I have already allocated seven of the twelve rooms, so be quick!
