Does anyone know how the petrol cap pivot is attached? I assume it is just a friction fit pin, but do not want to give it a hard tap just in case it is threaded.....

Hi Pete,
Yes, it's a simple roll pin.
So you can tap or press it out.
If you change the cap, there are plenty of "Monza" caps on the market, but you need to be careful.
The Hesketh cap has a breather hole in the dished washer on the underside of the cap.
Most of the caps on the market do not have this breather hole - for tanks that have a separate breather.
Simple enough to drill the hole.
Otherwise your Hesketh only goes a mile or so before spluttering to a halt.

Thanks very much. Wasn't too keen on commencing percussive mechanics until I had received expert advice. Now the search is on to find an instrument to do so that is long enough to reduce risk of tank impact...
Very long pin-punch required...
Be VERY careful as the pin is long enough to damage the paint on the outgoing side too...
