Fuse blown twice in the last couple of weeks. Tail light, speedo lights go out. Probably a bad earth somewhere. Any place I should be specifically looking ?
Maybe a dodgy connection or bare wire under the seat tail unit? The wiring looms were actually about two inches too short in this area and further repairs over the years makes them even shorter...
I had problems with fuses blowing a few years ago which turned out to be the wiring loom touching the top of the rear cyinder head. Pressure on the seat pushes the rear air box down and the fuse box is attached to the rear air box.
Checking the loom I found it had rubbed through, so I re-insulated and secured it better to the frame.
As Rob says, the loom is a bit tight and of course the engine is a tight fit in the frame which the loom is attached to.
Hope that helps.
That reminds me of the Vampire I had which PW now has. It ran perfectly until I sat on it, whereupon it stopped. Some head scratching ensued with several HOC members also present, until DH found that the seat pressed down on the loom that runs behind the airbox from the the back of the fuse box. We fixed it "temporarily" with some insulating tape gratefully supplied by another HOC member (forget who) and we continued our run. That was a good ten years ago and I have a feeling the temporary fix might never have been attended to. PW to check maybe?
