Title: How do I Add Photos or Pictures to my Forum Posts?
Post by: HOCAdmin on August 06, 2012, 11:37:45 PM
You've got a great photo and now you want eveyone in HOC to see it, what do you do ?

Well, you can't upload it directly to this forum because we'd soon run out of space. So, you need to "upload" the photo to somewhere on the web so it's always available for the Forum to 'link' to.

So, you need to find a place on the web to upload your photo to and then you can link to it from this (or any other) forum...

You may already have some web-space, such as a photo gallery on the Flickr or Photo Bucket websites, or even your own website... Almost any web-space will do... Even Facebook allows images to be uploaded and that'll let you link to them too...

In this example I'll upload a picture to ImageShack.us (There are others but ImageShack is free, easy to use, and you don't even have to register).

1.  Click on this link to http://www.imageshack.us/, then click on 'Browse' (top right hand side). Use the file browser that pops up to find your photo on your PC, click on it then click on the 'Open' button to select it.  The window will disappear and you be back to your first ImageShack screen, now click on 'Host It'

2.  ImageShack will upload your picture and show you a small version of it, it will also give you lots of different ways to link to your picture.  We are on a forum so click on the text to the left of 'Thumbnail for forums (1)' and press "Ctrl + C". This puts the code into your PC's "copy and paste" memory. (We'll use that later).

3.  Come back to this forum, then write the message you want to post and, when you get to the place where you want to insert your photo, press "Ctrl + V" to paste in the code.

Done. Just to check it try Preview.  This should have inserted a small version of your picture (called a 'thumbnail') which, when someone clicks on it, will pop up a window with a larger version of your picture.

If you've uploaded your photo to your own web-album:

Once the photo is online, you use the "Insert Image" buttom (under the "B") to insert the image as a kind of link...

To find the link details of your uploaded photo; you right-click your mouse on the photo and then left-click the "properties" selection.  In the dialogue box that opens, the details in the "Address (URL)" section are the link details for the photo.  Copy this and past it in-between the "IMG" tags.

It'll look like similar to this:

[I M G]http://www.heskethownersclub.org.uk/images/testphoto.jpg[/ I M G]

Where the info in between the IMG tags is the URL of the photo.

if it's OK, send your message like normal and admire your handiwork.  If something has gone wrong then still post your message but send me a private message (PM) and I'll see if I can sort it out for you.
