Hello all-
For those of you on the HOC DUtch Rally back in September you will know that my bike was burning oil from the front pot and I had to fill up with engine oil several times. Well I did not quite make it home .... 10 miles from home the oil light came on and would not go out !
The bike went back into Paul Sleamans workshop who confirmed a piston ring had cracked . 8 weeks later I got it back fixed. Got it home and on operating the starter smoke was seen coming from under the seat ... Eventually diagnosed as a bad earth on the powder coated frame. The bike is back on the road now and Paul and his team gave it a good valet whilst it was in.... Looks new again now !
The new 24 was being worked on there ... What a smashing looking piece of kit it is. Paul's reacons he will start building the first bike later in December ? I f I win the lottery I might just get one !
Anyway ... WISHING ALL YOU HOC MEMBERS A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS ... SEE YOU IN 2015.

Hi Geoff,

It was good to ride with you to, from and during the rally in Zeeland - those short exhausts that Paul fits certainly sound good.

Shame you had a problem, but at least it explains the oil usage and the vapour coming out the engine breather. And you've got it fixed.

Nice thing about the old Heskeths is that once they've been used and minor problems sorted, they become very reliable bikes, as long as they are used regularly.

Good to hear the new 24 is making progress and customer bikes being planned.
Can't wait to get the first Hesketh 24 club member.

Hi Geoff.  Good to hear that you got it sorted...  Did Paul offer any explanation as to why the ring had broken..? (just being nosey).

What about the oil separator we were talking about..?  I know that the broken ring would have cause serious pressure in the crankcase, leading to problems with oil issuing from the breather, but I still think your bike would benefit from this addition as it'll stop oil vapour condensing back to liquid in your breather filter.  Without it, the filter will simply become saturated with oil and start dripping again... (BTW, please ignore me if you've already done this)  ;)
