Side stand

Does anyone have a sidestand they would sell me? The center stand works well enough but it takes alot of effort and I would use the bike more for local trips if I didn't have to haul the thing off the ground every time. And..why do club members never use sidestands, is there something I should know?

Hi Kevin

The sidestand was one of the (many) parts that weren't 100% developed by the time the V1000/Vampire hit the streets...

It started out fitted to the front/LHS engine mount (some bikes have the hole in the crankcase-casting), then was relocated to the LHS of the centre-stand bracket... Neither position resulted in a particularly stable sidestand though...  It's NOT unknown for the bike to roll off the stand... :-\

Additionally, the sidestand fits VERY closely to the exhaust system and is a bugger to extend when seated on the bike... It's just as much fun trying to retract it too... The LHS rider's footrest gets RIGHT in the way and you end up with a sizeable bruise on your left calf muscle... >:(

So, those are the reasons that most Hesketh owner's favour the centre-stand...

But... I like a sidestand and I also like a challenge... I'm currently trialling a modified sidestand, that has a length of 5mm dia steel rod bent around the "step".  This presents more of a lip to get your boot onto when putting the stand down and also makes it easier to retract the stand when sitting on the bike...

And there was a stand for sale on Ebay last week (ended 13/08/2013) but it didn't sell...  Click here:  I've bought a few bits off the same guy and he's a good bloke (This seems VERY expensive to me though).

And lastly, Paul Sleeman at Hesketh Motorcycles may have stand... He's certainly spent some time in developing a new one for the Kingswood models... They don't have a centre stand at all, so that one MUST work...
